Speakers & Workshops: Mary Mashuta

Mary MashutaJoin us January 11, 2010, for Mary Mashuta who will entertain us with her "You Can Never Own Too Many Stripes." Mary bills herself as one of the foremost buyers of stripe fabrics in the country. It doesn't make any difference what color, size, or style a stripe is. She says, "If it isn't nailed down, I'll buy it." This lively lecture illustrates how she uses stripes in both traditional and contemporary quilts and wearables.

Mary's family traveled west from New York during her childhood, and she grew up in southern California. Today she shares a home in Berkeley with sister and fellow quilter, Roberta Horton. As a full-time quilt teacher and author, Mary has taught in 41 states, Canada, Denmark, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, and The Netherlands. She has been invited to appear many times at wonderful quilt conferences, among them International Quilt Festival, PIQF, Patchwork & Quilt Expo IX, The Netherlands, and Festival de Patchwork Internacional, Spain. Mary has exhibited her prize winning quilts at Quilt National and Visions and has created 14 garments for the Bernina, Fairfield, and American Quilter Society fashion Shows.
