Speakers & Workshops: Nancy Tiffany

Join us September 8, 2008, for Nancy Tiffany's presentation of Finish with a Punch: a Look at Borders and the Difference They Make. This lecture explores borders and the difference they make in the planning and finishing of quilts. Nancy shows slides as she explores the aspects of borders that come into play, and then she shows a wide variety of quilts. Some are her successes, and some are not... Nancy shares the ones that didn’t work so you can learn from her mistakes... This is an informative, quilt-filled lecture that will leave you itching to make that next beauty!
Nancy Tiffany is a fabric dyer, and loves to find ways to include her hand-dyed fabric in her quilts, and enjoys innovation in design, fabric use, and color. An avid computer user, she keeps abreast of the programs and techniques that combine the art of quilting and the technology that allow for new approaches to the art...most recently she is using digital images in her quilts.
Nancy belongs to guilds on-line and near her home, was actively involved in the Northern California Quilt Council for several years, and has taught classes and given lectures at guilds and retreats throughout California.
Sensational Seminole and
Brilliant Border Workshop
September 9, 2008, 10 pm - 4 pm
Seminole piecing is done by sewing strips together, cutting them apart and sewing them together to make intricate designs. It is an art form developed by the Seminole Indians of Southern Florida to embellish garments. Today, these bright, bold and beautiful Native American designs are a natural for quilting.
In this class we will create a wall quilt using rows of Seminole designs. In the process, participants will learn how to make all sorts of pieced designs that can be used for borders. We will explore the transition from Seminole piecing to borders, and the methods used to make the borders fit a specific quilt. We will use the book: Simply Seminole: Techniques & Designs in Quilt Making by Dorothy Hanisko. Supply list.
